MUFP demands doc’s arrest for assaulting scribes


Bhubaneswar:TUESDAY, 26 JUNE The Pioneer 
The Media Unity for Freedom of Press (MUFP) in its protest meeting under the Freedom Tree in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday condemned the criminal assault on four mediapersons.
The scribes — Byomakesh Kar (Kamyab TV), Rajesh Saraf (Naxatra TV), Badriprasad Sahu (STV) and Sanjib Mahapatra, editor of local Odia weekly Kosal Times — were assualted by Dr Prafulla Patra, who runs a nursing home at Khajurtikra in Bargarh and his family members, in Bargarh on June 19. This happened when the four journalists had gone to meet the pediatrician to seek relief for a poor patient.
The MUFP, while expressing its solidarity with the Bargarh Sambadik Sangh, demanded immediate arrest of the doctor and stringent action against him for this criminal act as well as other illegal activities by the doctor and his family members at the earliest.
An FIR was lodged against the doctor and his family for the criminal offence but the local police are yet to act on it.
Members of the Bargarh Sambadik Sangh led by its president Shankar Ballav Mishra also called on Bargarh district Collector Bhabagrahi Mishra on Friday to demand arrest of the pediatrician.
Among others, MUFP presidium members Prasanta Patnaik, Rabi Das,  Sampad Mohapatra, Subhas Chandra Patnaik, Chief of MBC TV Sharada Lahangir and Sujata Mohapatra of India TV were present at the meeting. Besides, the assault victims of Bargarh were also present.
